On May 27th, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal signed HB 340, the Personal Online Account Privacy Protection Act.
The act will prohibit employers and schools in Louisiana from demanding access to personal email, social media, and other types of online accounts, and prohibit any retribution for failure to give access to account information.
However, the law will still allow employers and schools the ability to request user names and passwords for any electronic devices or services they wholly or partly pay for, or that are used for business purposes.
The law also makes exceptions for employers investigating employee work.
